Re-watching 'The O.C.' 10 years later

Last year was the 10th year anniversary of the premiere of 'The O.C.' on TV and while i watched it back then and loved it (i got so excited every time i watched the opening theme with Phantom Planet's Californiaaa), but it's not a show i ever re-watched again. So, last year around Christmas, and with no other shows to watch, i gave it a try so, and for its 10th anniversary, let's remember why 'The O.C.' is still a fans' favourite and why for many it's better than 'Gossip Girl' (both shows produced by Josh Schwartz). Let's begin!

Welcome to the O.C. bitch!
Best
The first season - Everything happened during that first season (it had 27 episodes, no less) and it was cool to see an outsider like Ryan get into the lives of the rich and fabulous of Newport. It also was a show where the parents' tangles and dramas were not boring, but very relevant to the plot, so points for that. Also, this show as a whole, had the ability to really go backwards and make memorable scenes out of details like places (the model home, the lifeguard house on the beach...), songs or people. And that was really cool.

Seth Cohen - Who didn't love the awkward, quirky, comic book lover Seth Cohen? Sure he was self-absorbed and didn't understand his choices some times (the pot story, really Cohen?) But his sense of humour and the use of irony was always on point and such a refreshment to have a character like that and not just a pretty face or the average nerd.

Summer Roberts - It's hard to believe that at first her character was going to appear only for a few episodes but gladly, Josh Schwartz liked Rachel Bilson so much that they made her a regular. And even the unexpected happened when the audience liked Summer more than Marissa, the actual protagonist. That's something that also happened in 'Gossip Girl' with Blair getting more attention than Serena. Anyway, Summer was fun, superficial and loved shopping, tanning and celebrity gossip and she was overall cute. Of course people liked her more than Marissa.

Seth and Summer - They weres the show's couple, no matter how hard they tried to make Ryan and Marissa something special. I mean, they were, but everyone cared more about Seth and Summer. Anyway, they were cute, fun and a really great match, i liked how infatuated Seth was by her even when they were kids and how they ended up together, the popular girl with the nerd. I didn't like that much, though, them getting married at the end, like, with this producer there's always a wedding (or two) at the end of his shows and there was no need. Maybe that was for a younger audience but it simply looked so forced. Still Seth and Summer were cute always no matter what.

Marissa Cooper - I nearly put her in the 'So, so' category but Marissa Cooper deserved more than that. Sure she was really annoying always having a male friend in need that ended up falling in love with her (Oliver, Johnny, Volchok...) but all Marissa drama except for that was cool. I liked how she turned into alcoholism over her family issues with her dad going to prison and her mom divorcing him for that, not to mention her mother hooking up with her ex and doing anything possible to keep her away from Ryan. One had to feel sorry for the Coop, because she had it tough. It was really sad when once she finally got herself together she had the car accident and got killed. But that was because Mischa Barton wanted out of the show to pursue her acting career and see how well that went. Anyway, she was necessary on the show and her and Summer gave me a massive hair envy.

Julie Cooper-Nichols - This was parenting done wrong but it was fun to watch. At first she was all cold and manipulative but once they made her funny, you grew to like her more. Her friendship with Kiki was actually really nice and i liked the couple she made with Doctor Roberts (Summer's dad) and kinda hoped she would stay with the Bullit, but it was nice that in the end she chose not to stay with anyone and made a future for her and the Mini Coop.

Anna - This character stayed and left and returned when it was needed. Everyone loved seeing Anna and Seth together though also everyone wanted him with Summer, but it was sad when she left. But there was no room for Anna and Seth though it was nice to see them reunited in the second season and remain good friends.

Mini-Coop - Kaitlin was really a fresh air towards the end of the second season, because who remembered that Marissa's little sister was sent to boarding school? (fun fact, the first Kaitlin on the show was played by Shailene Woodley). It was cool to see the next generation of teens in Newport with her becoming friends with Luke's twin brothers and some special guest stars like her boarding school roommate (none other than Lucy Hale from 'Pretty Little Liars') as well as some school drama with Hannah and Mona from PLL too (Ashley Benson and Janel Parrish).

Seth and Ryan- These friendship was really cute, it had its ups and downs and sure Seth only wanted to talk about himself most of the times but they became like family, they were brothers. And they were never boring together.

Music - The music from the show was really something else, it discovered some really great bands and songs that are impossible to relate to anything else but the series and they were always on point. The soundtrack really became another character and they wisely used the same songs to evoke an specific event and that was something that i loved. There were great bands like Death Cab For Cutie, Rooney, The Killers, Radiohead and many more so i made a playlist with my favourites here, so take a listen but this one has to be my fave:

So, so
Ryan and Marissa - They tried to make them happen wayyy too many times. I liked them together, but there was always someone getting in between them (Oliver, Trey, Johnny...) so they ruined their storyline. Still, i would have loved that they would had ended up together before the end of the second season but well, they were fatal like that.

Ryan- It's not that he was boring, but he was boring. He didn't have the charisma to be a lead protagonist and his background family story was not interesting (except for her mom, who turned out to be all cute when all sobered up). And it was nice that the Cohens adopted him and he eventually had a future instead of ending up being a convict on the streets like his brother. Apart from that he was pretty much bleh.

Luke- The definition of a tool though he later became agreeable after his dad came out and Marissa's break up, despite eventually hooking up with Julie Cooper. But his quirky side, becoming friends with Ryan, Marissa, Seth and Summer was something cool. Of course, there wasn't much future for him in the show apart from that but let's not forget his stellar phrase: "Welcome to the O.C. bitch!"

Taylor Towsend- Another character that turned out to be a breeze of fresh air for the show. Sure she was a little bit annoying but in a cute way and her pairing with Ryan didn't completely suck.

The third season - It was the worst of all three seasons for sure but the first half was pretty decent, with all the characters grieving for the death of Marissa. Like, no one was the same after the car crash. It also worked to have Summer away in college, many teen shows decay when their protagonists leave high school, but here it was fine (even though Ryan, Seth and Taylor stayed in Newport). And it was also cool to see Kaitlin ruling high school (or trying to). But the second half of the season was boring, with Ryan's daddy drama and the presence of Che in general. But i really liked the Chrismukkah episode in this season the best, when Ryan and Taylor fall from the ladder and while in a coma, revisit what would Newport be like if Ryan hadn't been in their lives. The moment of him waiting for Marissa at the airport and discovering that it was in fact Kaitlin and that Marissa had originally died three years ago when she overdosed in Mexico was something really well played by the writers. If Ryan hadn't been there, she would have died sooner so that was emotional to watch. A personal favourite.

Worst

Oliver, Johnny, Trey - Seriously, any guy interested in Marissa Cooper. It followed always the same pattern, a guy who was in need and that, of course, Marissa had to take care of them, one per season. First  Oliver, who was really a pain in the ass, the typical storyline of a psycho obsessed with the girl of the show, and it was so obvious that you could tell what would end up happening. After that, it was Trey in the second season, another one falling in love with her and eventually trying to force her. And finally Johnny, fucking Johnny, probably the worst out of the three. This one was so needy and useless for the show, it felt like if they extended his storyline more than they should have. I'm not the only one that was happy when he died, no joke.

Volchok- Volchok was the excuse the show needed to kill Marissa Cooper and it didn't make sense that he chased her on the car so frantically (ok he was on coke, but still). Another guy obsessed with Marissa but this time, she wanted to be with him at first, for a change.

Che- Another character that shouldn't have stayed for that long. Everything he did was silly and it seemed like they had to put Chris Pratt in almost all season because of his contract or something because they kept trying to make him happen but he didn't.

Chris Brown - Because he's Chris Brown and we hate him. And also, because his story with Kaitlin ended up so all of a sudden that it made no sense to even starting it in the first place.

Theresa - She was fucking annoying in the first two seasons, with all her drama from Chino and her deadbeat boyfriend. But she was nice to Marissa at one point and in the third season she was more likeable when she got all her shit together and her baby wasn't Ryan's. I even would have liked if she had stayed with him but well, i preferred Taylor over her.

The finale- It sucked. Because who really wanted a wedding between Seth and Summer, it seemed so forced (not to mention Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody had just split up and it looked awkward as fuck). About the rest, well it was nice that Ryan ended up being and architect like he wanted and the ending scene was cool with him meeting a boy lost in the streets. But other than that, i didn't like it as much, it was not up to how good the show had been.

So overall, what show was better, 'The O.C.' or 'Gossip Girl'? I think 'The O.C.' was good for a longer period of time than GG, because the first two seasons were really great. But at the same time, 'Gossip Girl's first season was absolutely flawless so nothing tops that. So it's a tie because i really can't decide and i have a soft spot for GG. So, which one was better for you, OC or GG? Discuss!

If there's something that i really like, is the brand Wildfox, not so much because of the clothes but because their attitude towards life. They always have a positive message printed on their clothes, something cool, something cute, and the brand's founder, photographer and designer, Emily Faulstich, is really an inspiration to me. The way she looks at life and her photographs is something that i adore, and her project The Happy List was something really special.

Emily requested to anyone who wanted to participate, to send their happy things in order to create a list with the ideas of happiness from people all around the world and the final result is something super great. I submitted a few, which i don't remember and i don't know if they made it onto the final poster, but i've been lucky enough to win one poster and i'm super happy. It's a list or simple pleasures, of little things that make people happy, and it's a joy to have it home. So, i'm creating a small list of my personal delights below (which i'm sure will be updated because i keep adding things) and be sure to follow Emily on her Tumblr and Instagram. Because it's the small things that make us happy.

Top 10 favourite TV couples

Buzzzfed made some time ago a list about the TV couples you wish were real so i decided to make my very own, but instead, of my fave TV couples ever. I'm a serious TV-addict, so this was a big deal to me, so here you got my Top 10 TV couples from 'Friends', 'Gossip Girl', 'Lost', 'Skins', 'The O.C.', 'Sex and the City' and more, check them out in non specific order after the cut:
(Spoilers!)

Agent Cooper and Audrey Horne 'Twin Peaks' - Oh my, these two were something that, unfortunately, never was. There's no need to mention how iconicwas this tv show, 'Twin Peaks' is still to this day, one of the best shows ever and the romance between Agent Dale Cooper and Audrey Horne could have been beautiful, but Kyle MacLachlan decided it was not appropriate for an agent of the FBI to be romantically linked with a, underage girl so the writers heard him and dismissed any chance of them getting together. Not that sultry Audrey Horne didn't try (my fave character of the series, btw) and there was definitely some innocent filtration on his part, but in the end they linked each other with other people and it was frustrating. Still, the very last words of Audrey Horne before the bank blowing up were "Call Agent Cooper" so there's that. But still to this day i'm mad that they didn't end up getting together because all that chemistry went to waste. Not cool, Kyle MalLachlan, not cool.

Mulder and Scully'The X-Files' - These two were the epitome of teasing, it took 7 seasons for them to end up together, so everyone didn't give a damn when they finally did. They were really meant for each other, both focused on their work, with no life outside that and really getting and caring for each other. They simply didn't know or didn't want to believe (I want to believe!). But it was all a complete tease. From the, getting jealous when they paid attention to someone else, to some really naive flirtation, nearly in every episode that mattered -  because let's be honest, no one cared about all that FBI conspiracy- there was some kind of hint or touching or something that kept people wishing they would kiss already or something. But it took way too long and even when they had a baby together, no one really cared then. Still, it's fun to re-watch and see that chemistry going, that even the actors were said to have in real life.

Angela and Jordan Catalano'My So-Called Life' - This is my favourite tv series, so you can imagine. Angela Chase having a crush on that strange hot guy from her highschool, the one who lays on the wall and closes his eyes hard, like it hurt to look at things. And she got him! Everyone was rooting for her and everyone was happy when they got together but Jordan Catalano was high maintenance and Angela Chase was better than that so when he tried to persuade her to have sex, she didn't allow herself to succumb to the pressure and decided to end it. Still, the whole Angela dreaming about him, hoping that he noticed her someday, was really well pictured, as anything on this show. I don't think there's another one that depicts teenage years better than this one, and in the 90s no less. My fave show, as i said.

Carrie and Aidan 'Sex and the City'- Yeah, team Aidan all the way. Sure Carrie and Big had their moments, and i was happy when they got married in that low key wedding at the end of the first movie, but Aidan was something else. He was super nice, took good care of Carrie, he treated her well, which was something she definitely didn't appreciate. And his proposal was the sweetest thung. Sure he tried to push her into marriage but only because he deeply knew she wasn't going to settle down with him. The scene were both are dressed up in their best suits, and break up it's one of the best (and saddest) moments of the show. I liked though that they met in the show some time later and he moved on and even had a baby, but didn't like the fling they had on the second movie, which i always pretend doesn't exist. But anyways, team Aidan always, no matter what.

Richard and Monica'Friends' - Sure the shows' favourite couples were Ross and Rachel or Chandler and Monica, and they were nice but i had a real soft spot for Monica and Richard. There was something about Tom Selleck, don't ask me what but there was, that made him really charming and attractive and i liked how Monica and him got together. He was really sweet and he really took her off her feet and i love that. Of course, in the end, the age gap between them mattered and eventually split up but they were such a good match while it lasted.

Seth and Summer 'The O.C.' - Just talked about them in the 'Re-watching 'The O.C.' 10 years later' post. But overall, they were super cute, super fun and everyone loved them together.

Sawyer and Kate 'Lost' - I never understood why they tried to make Jack and Kate happen when she was obviously a better match with Sawyer. Both understood each other better, they both had tortured souls over their pasts and had amazing chemistry (that cage sex scene, hello?), but somehow the writers paired her with Jack and Sawyer with fucking Juliet. Apart from the finale, the biggest flop from this show was this.

Jal and Chris 'Skins' -I know the audience's favourite couple was Sid and Cassie, and they were one of my faves as well, but i really liked Chris and Jal better. I liked both characters separately and how they came together, with the pact of not saying 'No' or 'Fuck it'. They really made each other better and they had it tough. No less, Chris died and that was super sad and heartbreaking (someone on fotolog spoiled that for me so i couldn't believe it). Also, the part of Jal getting an abortion because of Chris' hereditary illness was something that you don't usually see on a teen tv show, and it's one of the things why 'Skins' was so fucking fantastic. And the funeral scene was also devastating but so beautiful at the same time, this show's two first seasons were absolutely flawless.

Drogo and Khaleesi 'Game of Thrones' - Ok, no one liked them at first, but once Drogo became more soft and loving to her... they were amazing. He was such a force, such a beast, his masculinity was something animal but at the same time he was tender with his queen and she also gave herself completely to him. It was sad when he died, but that only made her stronger and more fierce than she already was but honestly, they calling each other 'My sun and stars' and 'Moon of my life'... was something breathtaking.

Dan and Blair 'Gossip Girl' - This still hurts, no joke. I have already extendedly talked about how they ruined this show with the Gossip Girl reveal and how ending Dair was a big mistake. Sure there was a majority of the audience that preferred Blair with Chuck, but they were the most obvious choice and there was nothing new about them, so that sucked. I really loved how at first Dan and Blair made no sense and little by little they started to make all the sense in the fucking world, so i don't understand why they made them beautifully happen to discard them so suddenly and in favour of Blair with Chuck. For me, the show ended on those MET steps so don't know why i get so bothered by all this.

So, what are your fave tv couples? Do you agree with mine or highly disagree? Discuss!

Sofia Coppola's The Little Mermaid

When news came out that Sofia Coppola was going to direct a live action version of the fairy tale 'The Little Mermaid' last week, i was a bit unimpressed. I mean, it's not what i was expecting from her as her next project. But it has been revealed that instead of the Disney version, she's gonna follow the original Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale (1836), which is way darker and sinister.

Here's the plot of the original fairy tale (Spoilers):

'The Little Mermaid, longing for the prince and an eternal soul, eventually visits the Sea Witch, who sells her a potion that gives her legs, in exchange for her tongue (as the Little Mermaid has the most intoxicating voice in the world).  Drinking the potion will make her feel as if a sword is being passed through her, yet when she recovers she will have two beautiful legs, and will be able to dance like no human has ever danced before. However, it will constantly feel like she is walking on sharp swords, and her feet will bleed most terribly. In addition, she will only get a soul if the prince loves her and marries her, for then a part of his soul will flow into her. Otherwise, at dawn on the first day after he marries another woman, the Little Mermaid will die brokenhearted and disintegrate into sea foam.'

A mermaid suicide. And this sounds really, really good, kinda like the dark version of the 'Sleeping Beauty' on which the 2011 film was loosely based and it turned out to be better and more twisted than the original fairy tale.

Caroline Thompson ('Edward Scissorhands) will write the script which can be somethingexcellent and now the female lead needs to be cast. I can't help but think that she has to cast Elle Fanning as the mermaid because she would be perfect but i'm also excited to see if she picks a new Sofia girl (let's hope it's not Emma Watson, i don't think that would be a good idea). Anyway, let's hope more details surface and we can get even more excited with this next project.

GIRLS' season 3 best moments and scenes

$

For many, this season has been one of the best ones from this tv show, but i don't know if i have been distracted or something but i haven't felt as invested on this series as i used to be. Still, is remains one of my favourites so, as i did last year with season 2, i'm listing my fave moments from this third season, in no specific order, spoilers ahead!

First things first and let's talk about the episode that really stands out in the season, and i think we all agree that it's'Beach House' (3x07). This episode from beginning to end is 100% what i love about 'Girls', the ability that it has to create moments that we can all relate to some extent, and i fucking love that. The scene in the kitchen where Shoshanna starts lashing out at all of them, with Hannah and Marnie getting into it, and letting everything out, it's priceless. Sure Jessa didn't say much, she's not as invested in their friendships as the other three are, but Shosh stating how all they ignore her and that she could do better, and Marnie saying that she can't lower her expectations with Hannah anymore was kinda like a time bomb about to explode. And, for once, i'm with Hannah when she says that one shouldn't expect nothing from their friends. This is probably my favourite 'Girls' episode alongside the 'Welcome to Bushwick aka. The Crackcident' from S1 and 'Bad Friend' from S2.

Another important episode from season 3 was the 'Free Snacks' (3x06) ep. Here we see Hannah at first delighted to have a job where she's been paid and, more importantly, where she can have all the delicious snacks she loves for free, but soon she realises that it will only stuck her in that place and she will not be able to continue with her writing. The ending scene where she realises that maybe she won't be able to fulfill her aspirations as a writer is one of the lowest moments we've seen Hannah, and one i think nearly everyone can relate to, having a profession that is not what you really want to do in life, and having to accept that is tough.

A great character that this season had is Caroline, Adam's little freak show of a sister (played by none other than Samantha from 'Now & Then'!). Apart from bringing chaos whenever she goes, we got to see another face from Adam. Anyway, in the 'Dead Inside' (3x04) episode, and while Hannah, Laird and her are wandering through the cemetery, Caroline tells a really moving story of how when he was a kid, Adam stayed by the side of his little cousin when she was dying and even took her to a school dance. But it turns out she made up the story and, while Laird was sobbing, Hannah didn't even shed a tear because  she's insensitive like that. The fact that at the end of the ep. Hannah uses that same story as if it was hers states how Caroline is not the only one who's bananas in this show.

Another great moment happens during the 'She said OK' (3x03) episode when Hannah turns 25. And it's a music moment no less. So Ray is sitting there, listening to Smashing Pumpkins''Today' out loud after bumping into Shoshanna at the party and telling her that they can't be friends, because that wouldn't feel normal to him after what happened between them. Anyway, he's there, enjoying the song until the DJ changes to another tune (LMFAO, for God's sake), all because someone else requested it and he goes to confront David, Hannah's editor, to tell him the importance of queue and how no one should ever switch a song until is finished. It ends up badly for Ray but well, him, stating how important was that song in that moment for him, and what a great song that is, is really why I really like Ray.

Another moment that i liked was when Hannah, accompanied by Adam and Shoshanna, goes on a road trip to pick up Jessa from rehab in the 'Truth or Dare' (3x02) ep. Apart from having a lot of funny scenes between Adam and Shosh, i liked when they finally meet Jessa and they find out that she didn't need them to take her out of that place. Jessa disappeared some months ago and Hannah tells her off about it, because she cares about her and she just keeps vanishing from her life from time to time, and makes Jessa understand that. Deeply, Hannah cares for her and she's probably the only ones that really does, and that was a moment between friends that i could relate to. Too bad Hannah pretty much forgets about Jessa towards the end of the season.

A friendship that doesn't seem to improve no matter their "BFF status" is Hannah's and Marnie's. Sure they tried to work things out when drunk in the 'Beach House' episode ("I am OK. I might not seem OK and I might not be OK now, but I'm like, okay") but it became more obvious in the episode 'Incidentals' (3x08) with Marnie being sad about Ray's dumping her and not being able to tell Hannah why she was crying. This is a parallel scene to season's 2 'Boys' (2x06) episode when Hannah and Marnie are unable to talk to each other on the phone, so they're stuck in that same place where they continue to be friends more out of habit than because they really are. Also, this ep. introduced us to the very great song by Miguel that i can't stop listening to:

The ending of'Beach House' (3x07) was also one of the stellar moments of this season, from the waking up the following day and having breakfast like nothing had happened, which is pretty much what happens in families after a loud argument, to their dance routine at the very end which was superb. This episode is definitely why 'Girls' is worth watching.

Another episode that really stands out was the 'Flo: Love and Death' (3x09) ep. where Hannah returns home to visit her dying grandma. Aside from the very great scenes with her cousin and aunts, there's a scene where Hannah's mom tells her that she shouldn't settle down with Adam, not because he's not a nice guy (he rushes to be by her side when he learns about the car crash, how cute is that?), but because he has not figured out his life and she doesn't want that burden for her daughter. Her mom doesn't care about how caring he is or how happy Hannah might be with him and she defends that. Probably towards the end of the season, Hannah changes her mind about that but it remains unclear. But it's something all moms do, no matter how happy you might be there's always something that they can ruin for you with their opinions. And i think here it does in the long run.

When it comes to Jessa, this season started really good with her trying to get clean, but i didn't like when she relapses with Jasper and that not any of her friends cared about that, even though they were aware of it. In the 'Role-Play' (3x10) ep. when Shoshanna tells her that she looks like a yonkie and she admits that she is, you can tell how miserable and alone she really is. Not one of her friends are really concerned, not even her cousin. And you have to just feel sorry for how alone she is.

Another toll of Hannah's and Marnie's friendship happens in the 'I Saw You' (3x11) episode, when Hannah bumps into Marnie and Ray having sex because "Everything is my business". You can tell how both are just waiting for an opportunity to demonstrate the other that she's not as good as a friend and she thinks. Usually is Marnie who never does anything wrong and Hannah is the fuck up so sure Hannah is happy to have discovered the secret affair between her and Ray, so she can tell her: "You will never judge me again." It again shows how their friendship is not a healthy one and they're constantly trying to prove what a failure of a friend the other one is.

And we get to the finale, 'Two Plane Rides' (3x12), where Shoshanna finally explodes after not being able to graduate because she has been distracted and the reveal of Marnie telling her that she has had sex with Ray. All her world is upside down and when she finally opens up to Ray about how she loves him and wants him back because she's a better person with him, is something super sweet but also heartbreaking because Ray doesn't feel the same. Such a shame we didn't get to see more of Shoshanna this season but i liked the result. She had it coming.

And about the finale, with Hannah and Adam breaking up and Hannah getting her acceptance letter from Iowa... First, it was unfair that Hannah told Adam about the letter right before he went on stage but i seriously think, she did in on purpose. Of course Hannah never thinks about anyone's needs before her very own, but i think she did that so he had an excuse to break up with her so it would be easier for her to make the decision to move away. It might not be like that at all and she's simply just done with her trying to be there for Adam and supporting his passion, but we can't tell for sure. What is certain is that she's happy with the acceptance program and that it seems she's gonna take it.

So far, this season has been good, it started really nicely but somehow i didn't like the last few eps as the ones before. I kinda think the two previous seasons were better but i can't wait to see what's coming. Iowa bitches?

Last year it was announced that there was going to be a reality show based on some users from Instagram that were living life as the rich and fabulous and the idea didn't sound too good, i mean, an Instagram casting? But let me introduce you to my latest guilty pleasure:

'Rich Kids of Beverly Hills' follows the vacant daily lives of a really wealthy gang that lives for instagraming and tweeting every single detail from their shopping escapades, their fabulous partying and their luxury life where selfies are a big deal just like 'Likes' on IG and Twitter. As shallow as this might sound, it's really amusing to watch because they are living in a complete different reality and they are very funny while doing so. Plus, the fabulous son of Magic Johnson, E.J. Johnson, appears on the show (not as often as i would love to) and that's really worth watching.

Season 1 is over and there has to be a season 2 on the way because this is way too funny to miss. Check out behind the cut some very important lessons in life from these #SORRYNOTSORRY rich kids:

I've already talked about Rebecca & Fiona, the Swedish DJs that released their first album 'I Love You, Man' in 2011 and that i really liked. Their style is fun, 90s-Shampoo-esque and their music makes you wanna dance all the time, we have some electropop queens here.

They have just released their first single 'Holler' from their upcoming new album 'Beauty is Pain' and it's sounds really good. The song is super catchy and i've been listening to it nonstop so i can't wait for more new material. The vid is pretty fun, a little bit silly but i simply love their flirty spirit, watch it below:

Romanticisation of Mental Illnes by Kelsey Weaver

 Step off your altar

I've recently came across this set of  photos by Kelsey Weaver, a social media journalist from Idaho who has created a series of really great concept pictures. I love the unconventional use of ordinary elements or stories to represent something else – just like the 'This is not the princess I wanted to become' post–  and even though it's only six pictures (the girl hasn't updated her Flickr since 2011), the idea is really cool. I'm posting them all and also the tagline she used to describe them, anorexia, anxiety, self-mutilation, depression and suicide, the glamorisation that some people do of their illnesses in order to continue.

I was gonna say that i've already talked about the forever underrated modern masterpiece 'Spring Breakers', (even in Spanish for Tokyo Blues Magazine) and that there was nothing left to say about it, but i could really go on and on about this movie. I loved how so many people loathed it while others, like me, got the real message and thought it was brilliant.

Anyway, if there's one scene that stands out in the movie (for good or for bad), that's gotta be the 'Everytime' scene. The three little chickens that are still there with Alien are getting ready to do a major robbery at various places and they ask him to "play something fucking inspiring", and you know the rest. The calm before the storm, the innocence of the lyrics and the beautiful sunset in contrast with the girls dancing with their guns and the images of their violent attacks in slow motion while the sweet melody keeps on playing, if you don't understand the greatness of this scene and the irony contended, we can't be friends.

Anyway, enjoy the scene and enjoy Spring Break like Harmony Korine would:

'Petals in the Wind'

Soon after the 'Flowers in the Attic' TV remake was filmed, it was announced that its follow up novel 'Petals in the Wind' would get an adaptation as well. Which, even though the first adaptation was kinda a mess, is good news because if you liked the first book, you also loved 'Petals in the Wind'. The sequel takes place 10 years after the events of 'Flowers in the Attic' so it will focus on the second part of the book so that's a good thing because it's the one i loved best, and because of that both actors playing Chris and Cathy (Mason Dye and Kiernan Shipka) have been recasted by Wyatt Nash and Rose McIver (who you can see in the pic above practising ballet).

Of course, it will be another messy adaptation but such a guilty pleasure to watch. You can take a look at the trailer below, it's kinda spoilerish but i can't wait to watch the whole thing, now knowing not to expect too much of it:

10 years of 'Mean Girls'

What a movie. Seriously. I don't think that no one who went and watched it on the cinema (as i did) thought that this would become such a chick flick classic. A true modern heiress to 'Heathers' and 'Clueless', it contains all the basic elements in a highschool movie, from the mean chicks, to the newbie, the nerds, the losers, the stoners, the mathletes, the highschool band, Prom, Halloween parties, everything. But still, it's really something else. Blame Tina Fey (who wrote the screenplay) and  a really wide ensemble, each and every character having their own unique thing. It's a movie which it's success it's not centered on the main protagonist (Lindsay Lohan) in fact, she's kinda the less cool character of the whole film, kinda like the excuse. Everyone else shines through, even Trang Pak. And its humour (again, hand it to Miss Fey) it's excellent. I wish my friends and i could quote 'Mean Girls' as we do with 'The Goonies', because it has tons of cool quotes like "On Wednesdays we wear pink", "If you're from Africa why are you white?" and so on.

So it's been 10 years and the movie hasn't gotten old at all, i kinda think it has gotteb even better because there hasn't been another chick flick based on highschool that has been better. Of course, there are a ton of other comedies with a female ensemble that have been excellent, like Drew Barrymore's 'Whip It!', 'Bridesmaids', 'Easy A' or 'Bachelorette' (some even say 'Pitch Perfect' but as a i hate musicals or anything close, i didn't like it that much), but nothing like 'Mean Girls'.

So, in honor of its 10th year anniversary, i'm posting the best quotes from the movie, i should do a re-watch soon cause the movie it's really the guiltiest pleasure ever and i love films that leave me such a good feeling after laughing so hard. So fetch!

MET Gala! Ok, i'm not gonna comment anything about this year's theme because as everyone who attended pretty much ignored it, i'm not going to bother about it.

This year i'm not only going to comment about the looks that i loved but also from others that have been really mixed up, in conclusion, about all the looks that matter, let's begin and let me know your faves!

Naomi Watts was, for me, queen of the night in this exquisite Givenchy dress that was a dream, she's always on point.

Charlize Theron also saved the night in Dior even though she didn't look as stunning as Miss Watts while Cara Delevingne was effortesly chic and original wearing trousers in Stella McCartney

More behind the cut!

Naomi Campbell was divine in this Riccardo Tisci gown that didn't get enough love while i really, really liked Chloë Moretz in this Chanel

Adele Exarchopoulos was probably my second fave look from the night (after Naomi W.) as she looked super gorgeous in Prada

I surprisingly liked Florence Welch's look in Valentino and Leighton Meester's Emilio Pucci dress was gorgeous but somehow it looked a little bit off on her

The Olsens were ok this year at the MET Gala, Mary Kate in vintage Ferre while Ashley in vintage Chanel, who i liked better. No comment about Lizzie Olsen whose look was a mess, so disappointing in Miu Miu

Greta Gerwig was fine in Theysken's Theory dress and Georgia May Jagger looked like a babe in Thierry Mugler

Joan Smalls was really beautiful in Vera Wang (just like the designer) while Chanel Iman was equally gorgeous in Topshop

Sofia Coppola looked really classy in this dress i couldn't ID (Marc Jacobs or Louis Vuitton i guess), and Victoria Beckham kept it nice and simple in a dress from her own collection

Hailee Steinfeld's Prabal Gurung looked better from behind but overall it was ok

Amber Heard looked really classy in Giambattista Valli (don't mind the clown) while i have mixed feelings about Rosie Huntington Whiteley in  Balmain, i think i liked it but not for this event

Also having mixed feeling's about Sarah Paulson's dress while Allison Williams kept it classy (as usual) in Oscar de la Renta

Sarah Jessica Parker stunned in Oscar de la Renta (would had been better without the gloves) and Lupita Nyong'o is everyone's favourite in Prada because of the hype she has right now, but let's be honest, the girl is gorgeous but this look is ridic

This photoshoot of models wearing some of this year's MET Gala dresses around New York is a complete joy.

They're wearing Reem Acra, Jason Wu, Zac Posen, Monique Lhuillier, Prabal Gurung, Dior and Giles, and the photos taken by Cass Bird are simply as gorgeous as all those beautiful gowns. This was shot in anticipation of the MET Costume Institute Gala and i have to say that i'm loving these dresses more than many of those worn by celebrities on the red carpet. So enjoy this really fun and cool shoot and check out some more pics at the sourceand also some really cool behind the scenes photos taken by instagram users that came across the photoshoot in NY behind the cut.

Funny or Die's take on Sofia Coppola's 'The Little Mermaid'.

This is so funny and crazy accurate that any Sofia Coppola movie lover like me is gonna adore it. Funny or Die has recreated what Coppola's upcoming film would look like and mixed a ton of her signature shots from her movies, like the opening from 'Lost in Translation', the karaoke scene, the pool scenes from 'Somewhere', the Chateau Marmont, Trip Fontaine laying on the swimming pool and so on. It's really cute and funny and AnnaSophia Robb and especially, Evan Peters, are really amazing on it.

Watch it because it's something hilarious but nice at the same time: My Little Mermaid (vid won't embed)

I've been expecting the new photoshoot from Ariko Inaoka with identical twins Erna and Hrefna for quite a while now, since she's been photographing them for years.

The result is always so dreamy, creepy at times but the good kind of creepy, and there's really something about them that makes you want to take a look into their own personal world, that seems so secretive and unknown to us. Ariko is determined to capture their singularity until they turn 16 so there are a lot of shoots coming. Because they dream the same dreams sometimes and they seem like creatures from out of this world, enjoy the rest of the photos that i've posted and take a look at many more at the source.

'We Exist' Arcade Fire

I watched this new music video early in the morning the other day and i shouldn't had to, because it crushed my whole entire day.

The video is a 'Dallas Buyers Club' meets 'Precious', and i really loved the pain it depicts, and while i'm not a fan of Andrew Garfield, mainly because of the new 'Spiderman' saga (never liked this superhero anyway), his acting was better in 'Never Let Me Go' and here he really shines. The look on his eyes while he's at the bar and he sees the old couple dancing, aiming to have that one day and how difficult that is to him (i'm referring to him as male as i'm talking about the actor, not the character) is something heartbreaking.

I'm really loving Arcade Fire's latest videos, like the live version of 'Afterlife' (that was much better than the official video) and this one is really great as well, so enjoy but be careful because it can crush your soul:

Lifetime's 'Petals on the Wind'.

$

As i've already said, i was willing to watch Lifetime's adaptation of 'Flowers in the Attic's sequel 'Petals on the wind', but only having in mind that it was not going to be something really great. I mean, both tv adaptations have been entertaining but it's frustrating to see how much potential these stories have and how cheap the results look.

Anyway, as a novel, 'Petals on the wind' lives up to the hype of the story of 'Flowers in the Attic', of course it's not as good but stands out from the rest of the follow up novels. In Lifetime's adaptation, they speed up time and you don't get to see how the three remaining Dollanganger dolls, Chris, Cathy and Carrie, manage to survive after leaving the attic for good. I think that was a huge mistake because that was an important part, how they met their guardian Paul and how he provided for them and almost marries Cathy to the dismay of her loving brother. In fact, if i'm not wrong, they get married at the end of the book so he doesn't die in the beginning as the Lifetime movie shows (even though, he dies towards the end of the novel).

Another thing that was wrong in the tv adaptation was how Cathy entered the ballet company, it wasn't thanks to Julian but because she was good, and also, he's involved in a car accident but Cathy is not with him in that moment. And most importantly, he doesn't die because of his injuries, he commits suicide because of them and because he won't be able to dance again, which is a really dramatic chapter which has been lost in the adaptation. I really missed that part because even though he was pretty abusive towards Cathy, i liked that story and wish they had been faithful to the book.

As many of those who have read the novels know, i could go on and on about how it wasn't well adapted, but those two parts are the ones that i missed the most. And as if that wasn't enough word is out that both follow up novels 'If There Be Thorns' and 'Seeds of Yesterday' will have its adaptation as well, but not 'Flowers in the Attic's prequel 'Garden of Shadows', which tells the story of the evil grandmother from her youth and why she becomes as mean and cruel as she is later in life. Which i think it's a mistake because it's the most interesting novel after 'Petals on the Wind' and you get to see the beginning of it all and know a few more family secrets.

Also, another one of V.C. novels''My Sweet Audrina' is going to be adapted as well, book which i've just read, and good lord how are they going to adapt such a strange story. I didn't like it as much as the 'Flowers in the Attic' saga, i really thought it was just ok, but as with all the other adaptations coming from Lifetime, i will watch it, i don't know if it will talk about them here, though. Anyway, enjoy Lifetime's fuckfest with these novels and take them lightly, such a shame they weren't adapted to the cinema by a good director because the story was really worth it.

Looking HBO

(Spoilerish)
It took me quite a while to watch this show, even though i fucking adored 'Weekend' by Andrew Haigh and i highly recommend it to anyone who likes simple stories but with a lot of meaning and depth. Anyway, the thing is that i had really high hopes for 'Looking', and while at first watching the first episodes i felt kinda disappointed (the show stars developing really slowly, just like the Andrew Haigh movie), in the end i absolutely adored it.

Initially compared to HBO's other show 'Girls', really loose comparison in my opinion, the key of this show is getting to know the three main characters little by little, even though that means that you don't like them at first or don't understand their actions (like it happened to me with Agustín), but also that shows Haigh's accuracy to write characters and stories. As simple as they are or as common, it depicts real life itself and that's the greatness, and i think, the reason behind the success of 'Looking'. It doesn't matter if you're not a gay living in San Francisco, or a man for that matter, you can relate to their stories and their feelings, and that's something that also happened in 'Weekend'. For me, the most touching moment of this season was when Patrick, after having sex with his boss Kevin - allowing him to go backdoor when he never allowed that to his love interest Richie, meets him and realises his mistake and how he's not ready to get committed in a relationship with him. I could relate to that, doing everything wrong or with the wrong person and being aware of that, but doing it anyway, because something in your guts tells you that you're scared and you simply can't take a step.

It's not a show for everyone, just as 'Weekend' it's not a movie for anyone, so i recommend it for those who like real stories, who have no rush when watching a show and, of course, anyone who liked Haigh's movie. I seriously can't wait for the second season.

'Under the Skin' (2013)

I was really looking forward to watch 'Under the Skin', i loved Jonathan Glazer's previous movie 'Birth' (incredibly underrated), so i couldn't wait for anything new coming from this director. It took him 9 years to do another movie, and, as if 'Birth's plot wasn't weirder enough (A young boy tries to convince a woman that he is her dead husband reborn), he came up with an even weirder movie if possible.

'Under the Skin' is based on Michael Faber's sci-fi novel about an alien disguised in human form that drives around Scotland picking up men, and that's as much as i can tell. And as weird as that sounds, the movie results believable, just like it happened with 'Birth'.

In the movie, Scarlett Johansson plays an alien with a female figure, who has no sympathy for the humankind or feels no pity towards them and her coldness and hidden intentions, along with a soundtrack that sounds creepy as hell, create a whole atmosphere of uncertainty and terror. You just don't know what's happening, what's going to happen and why. The photography also increments the tension of the movie, with black scenarios when she's alone with the men.

(Spoilers)

The greatest achievement of the film is precisely to see how detached she's to any feeling and how dehumanised she is, and how little by little she starts to comprehend this world and the people living in it. She uses her female form to attract men, using sex as her weapon, but slowly, and after some experiences she has on Earth, she begins to act differently. She begins to question things, to appreciate small details like the sunlight, she feels somehow disturbed when she falls on the street and people kindly help her, or feels sorry about a man whose deformities on his face make him feel isolated from the rest. This is a key scene because she sees no difference between him and the others, and she understands his pain. In fact, it seems that even though she follows her scheme of seducing him to continue her mission, she releases him in the end. That's when we see the turning point of her character and how this is appreciated by another alien on Earth, the motorcycle man, whose character is also intriguing and results scary as well, as he lacks that sensibility she starts to have and captures the man she has just set free.

From this moment, she begins a journey on her own, she sees her own reflection in a mirror and feels fascinated by it, she gets in the middle of a fog and likes the sensation it brings, but not everything are pleasurable feelings. From that moment, and after seeing her human form, she tries to act like normal people do and it results impossible for her. From the time when she tries to eat a delicious piece of cake to interacting with strangers, she only feels disturbed. She's definitely trying when she accepts help of a random man on the bus without questioning his motives and lets him seduce her, which is a role she has never experienced before. Of course, this only confuses her more and runs away but now the most important part of the character development takes place:

Initially, she objectifies her role as a woman to carry on with her mission, but now, she's unaware of the consequences which that objectification can bring to a woman. At first, she's in charge of the situation and chooses her prey but now it's the other way around and has fatal consequences for her. She encounters a forest wander while walking through the woods and while at first he's kind to her and gives her directions worrying that she might get lost, when she falls sleep in a shelter she wakes up being groped by him, and runs away. She ran away to the woods to take comfort after the sexual encounter with the first man she allows to seduce her, and now she's scared by this forest wander who's trying to get advantage of her, just like she did with all those men. The result is tragic and while trying to force her, he breaks her skin showing her true nature and in a very touching moment, she releases her human form little by little until she holds her human face between her hands, looking at what she aimed to be, something she tried to turn into, only to be burnt by the forest wander.

That's, i think, the explanation of the internal struggle that she experiences, the combination of her human form and interactions with other humans is clearly not working, but it's with nature where she connects most. An evidence to this is when she lays down in the shelter to seek comfort after running away from her first and only lover, and we see how she merges with nature, how there she finds peace. That's why the ending is so poetic, while she gets burnt and rejected by humankind (or at least she's a victim of them), that combustion is in deed a communion with nature, she turns into ashes into the woods and up to the sky, and that's a way she becomes part of what she wanted.

The ending is very dramatic and sure it leaves you thinking about lots of things (just look at this mess of a review), but the movie is an experience worth watching. Besides the flawless photography, creating such amazing enviorment, and the amazing soundtrack by Mica Levi, Jonathan Glazer's latest movie is as iconic and flawless as i expected. Scarlett Johansson really stuns in the movie and delivers an really accurate portrayal from showing no emotions to feeling them all, and can only receive praise for this performance.

I couldn't recommend it more but keep in mind that this is one of the weirdest movies you will see, and it stays on your mind for days, which i love. Obviously it's not a film for everyone but this is for me an instant classic. A must-watch.

Also, the soundtrack by Mica Levi is amazing, so i posted the most hauting track right after some images of the movie that i loved, i couldn't post all the stills i wanted since my computer is broken down (hence the lack of updates) but here are a few super iconic shots and also the teaser of the movie that gives you a taste of what you have coming:

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Fall 2014: Dior

The Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week was last week and Dior has stunned yet again not only with their beautiful designs but with a really dreamy and pretty show.

The collection is really classy and pretty, i'm loving the use of white in the majority of dresses and the two colored shoes, but this time i'm focusing more on the show than on the actual looks (even though i posted some of my fave outfits below). The pristine use of white is also evident on the display of the runway show, and with the use of white flowers it creates a really beautiful environment to present such a pretty collection.

I'm posting some pictures that one of my favourite instagrams (parisinfourmonths) took when she attended the show and the photos are really gorgeous. It must'd been amazing to attend such a flawless fashion show so i'm posting some of her pics after the cut and after them some others with the looks from the collection that i liked best, such a delicious Dior show.
